4-Year-Old Rescued from Catlin Canal in Rocky Ford After Bystanders Perform CPR

Rocky Ford, Colo. - April 3rd, 2026 - At about 4:44 P.M., Rocky Ford Communications Center received a call of a missing 4yo child. Two minutes later, Rocky Ford

Communications Center received another 911 call about a child found in the Catlin Canal near South Main Street.

A bystander jumped in the water and grabbed the child. Another bystander pulled the child out and an off-duty officer from the Colorado Department of Corrections started CPR. The child began breathing again.

Rocky Ford Police and Rocky Ford Fire/EMS arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The child was transported by Rocky Ford Ambulance to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta for treatment.

The Rocky Ford Police Department is proud of the actions of the bystanders, who saw this child in need and didn't think twice about helping. Their choice to intervene gave this child a second chance at life.

The names of the bystanders and the victim are being withheld at this time for privacy reasons.
