Fatal Head-on Crash on Boulder Canyon Drive

Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route

(Boulder, COLO) - On April 2, 2026, at approximately 9:23 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a report of a head-on crash on Highway 119 (Boulder Canyon Drive) at Chapman Drive. The crash involved a 2020 Lexus RX350 and a 1997 Subaru Legacy. 

The 76-year-old driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Boulder County Coroner once the next of kin have been notified. 

The 83-year-old driver of the Lexus was transported to a local area hospital. The extent of injuries is unknown.

Both directions of Highway 119 at Chapman Drive are closed. Motorists are urged to go an alternate route. Check COtrip.org for updates on closures and traffic delays. 

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU) is leading the crash investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
