Rocky Ford Fire Crews Contain Fully Engulfed Garage Fire on 10th & Chestnut, No Injuries Reported

On 03/16/2026 at approximately 8:40 pm we were paged out to the area of 10th and Chestnut for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival we found a shed/garage fully engulfed in flames. We decided on a defensive attack and protect exposures.

Firefighting efforts were difficult due to electrical wire hazards. Black Hills Energy was requested to help mitigate electrical hazard. Shortly after BHE arrived the fire was extinguished.

Rocky Ford Police Department and OCSO assisted with traffic control and scene security.

Overhaul operations took longer than anticipated due to a large amount of trash and debris on the property and in the shed/garage. No injuries reported and the persons living in the structure evacuated prior to our arrival.

Cause of fire undetermined although numerous electrical extension cables shared by neighboring structures were scattered throughout property.

HC Construction arrived with their mini excavator to assist with overhaul operations. Structure was a total loss.

All units cleared at approximately 1230am and power returned to normal to adjacent properties.
