Lamar Police Confirm Safe Recovery of Children; Father Jimmy Atencio Taken Into Custody in La Junta, Colorado

On 09/04/25 Officers of the Lamar Police Department were made aware of information by an individual, pertaining to the disappearance of Jimmy Atencio with his two children. In coordination with the La Junta Police Department and other individuals, Jimmy Atencio was contacted and voluntarily surrendered and was taken into custody in La Junta, Colorado.  The children were brought back to Lamar to be turned over to Prowers County Department of Social Services pending the release to the mother and reporting party in this case. 

The Lamar Police Department would like to thank the La Junta Police Department for their assistance in the successful resolution of this case and safe return of the children involved. 

Due to the on-going investigation of this case, no additional details will be released at this time.
