Obituary

He was born to Virginia and Robert D.W. Berg April 25, 1957 in Bloomington, Minnesota. He lived to 66 years of age. Rob is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan Berg of La Junta, children, Daniel (Audrey Dehdouh) Berg, of La Junta, Patrick (Lauren) Berg of La Junta, Rachael Berg of La Junta, grandchildren, Isabelle, Constance, Eloise, Austyn, Leila, and Merik Berg all of La Junta, siblings, Steve (Mary) Berg of La Junta, Janet Berg of Colorado Springs, Darilyn (Alan Dale) Berg of La Junta. He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Virgie Berg.

Rob was the youngest of the four siblings and his rambunctiousness and youthful energy shown through his entire life. Rob had a unique sense of humor that ranged from the occasional “dad joke” or comical story, to his observation of the world and his interpretation of the humor in it. Rob loved telling stories and making people laugh.

Rob had a very competitive nature, participating in sports like hockey, downhill skiing, and soccer in his youth, and excelling at long distance running and triathlons, Taekwondo, tennis, racket ball, and golf into the later years of his life. Some of the proudest exploits he would share often, and his fondest memories of competition were the marathons on Pikes Peak that in his twilight, he would reminisce and aspire to traverse Barr Trail just one more time. Rob loved to ski with family and friends, challenging many to downhill races in his youth and braving expert level runs throughout his life. Rob also showed tremendous artistic talent throughout his life, but in his later years he really embraced his passion for painting and gave Bob Ross a run for his money on landscape painting!

Rob was very active in the community, participating on several boards and holding a City Council chair, as well as actively participating in charities and community events. Rob was a pillar of his family’s business. After graduating from St. Cloud State University with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Rob joined the sales team at DeBourgh Manufacturing and was tasked to grow and foster the dealer network comprised of companies across the nation that sold DeBourgh’s products. The swell of messages and calls sharing condolence and remembrance of Rob’s positive influence on so many lives is a testament to a value that Rob held dear and exemplified: the importance of relationships and true love and care for others. His lasting bonds of friendship that we all fondly remember today speak to his strength in creating meaningful relationships and his positive impact on us all and on this world.
