Obituary

John Joe aka Juan Jose Villalva, 83, passed away from this earth to be with our Lord on Monday, 31 January 2022. Juan was gifted to his parent’s, Ramon and Antonia Villalva, by the grace of God on 6 May 1938 in Las Animas, Colorado.

His childhood planted the seeds of character for who Juan was and those that knew him may attest to his sense of responsibility, unwavering confidence, selflessness and a true balance of pride and humility. He was quick to smile and song. Many, to include strangers were treated to opportunistic renditions of “Las Mananitas”. Juan was forever ready to give freely of his time and energy whether it was to lead a scout pack, rally his children’s sport’s teams or perform in a local theatrical fund raising presentation of “Cabaret”. He was a cornerstone in his family and an undeniable patriarch of the family he begot. Juan’s life values were guided by his unwavering faith and belief in truth that he instilled in his children. He was humble in self and proud of his family and heritage. He was a teller of stories and creator of memories no matter what intersection in life. Juan will forever be loved and remembered as he is laid to rest in Las Animas, Colorado.

He is survived by his sister, Charlotte (Villalva)Snodgrass, six of his seven children, John Ramon, Anthony Louis Mosely (Grace), Michael Vincent (Maureen), Victor Jesse, Veronica Jo King (Gary) and Joe Tommy Villalva (Ginger). He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee and his daughter, Diana Christine. He was blessed with 23 grand-children, 46 great-grand-children, 4 great-great-grand-children and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be offered beginning at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 650 Elm Avenue, Las Animas, CO. Juan will be laid to rest at Bent County Cemetery in Las Animas.
