Jay's Christmas Dinner Delivers Successfully

A Message from Elf Central:

"Jay’s Elves would like to thank everyone that Volunteered their time on Christmas day to make this another successful year. We would also like to thank the people who volunteered and the sponsors: 1st National Bank, La Junta Senior Center, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and the Copper Kitchen for their monetary donations and desserts which helps to keep this great event going. Also a big thank you to SECO News for helping us get the word out!"

SECO News spoke with Otero County Commissioner John Hostetler about this year's Community Christmas Dinner...

SECO News: This is Adrian Hart with your Southeast Colorado News on seconews.org

We're here at the Otero County Courthouse with Otero County Commissioner John Hostetler, he was able to attend Jay's Community Christmas Dinner and we wanted to follow up and say hey John how was Jay's Community Dinner this year?

Hostetler: Well Adrian this year it was a lot different than it has been in the past we weren't able to have people inside where they could visit with each other, but we had a good drive-thru. We had a good turn out, way better than I expected. We served probably somewhere between 470 to 480 meals.

SECO News: Wow.

Hostetler: So there was a lot of people who turned out and we had very few leftovers, we did run out of desserts a little early, but we didn't know what to plan for.

SECO News: Right.

Hostetler: The turn out was really good and I'm really thankful for everybody that came in a showed up and helped and especially you helping promote it.

SECO News: Thank you. I appreciate that, it's a great cause for the community.

Hostetler: Yes, it is a good cause for the community and like I said we did have a good turn out. It's something that benefits the whole community too because there's a lot of people out there...they just want a place to go.

SECO News: Exactly.

Hostetler: Just somebody to spend Christmas with, or visit with and like I said it was a little different this year, but we're just trying to keep the tradition going.

SECO News: Yup, by pickup or delivery Jay's Community Christmas Dinner was back for 2021.

Hostetler: Yes, yes it was. We had a lot of good help.

SECO News: Volunteer ran.

Hostetler: Linda Kroschel does a bang up job on all the work she puts into it in getting everything lined up. She does a good job, but yeah it was a really good turn out and everything went real good.

SECO News: Alright, thank you so much for taking the time John.

Hostetler: Thank you.
